Monster Monpiece is Coming to Steam With All Cards

monster monpiece 05-20-14-1

Idea Factory International has announced they’re bringing Monster Monpiece to Steam.

The publisher also confirmed they’re bringing the game to Steam with all of its cards – meaning none are being removed for being too risque (Editor’s Note: Some were removed from the PS Vita version).

Monster Monpiece will be launching for PC via Steam sometime next year.

Well, I’m not about to buy it since that kind of game doesn’t look like my cup of tea in the slightest, but I’m glad they seem to be restoring content they cut in the vita localization at least. I think it’s a sign that they know they made a mistake and are willing to change.

  • Eldhin Hellknight

“meaning none are being removed for being too risque”
    FUCK YEAH!!!!

finally i will play this game

  • http://nichegamer.net/ bf313

Really loved this game on Vita regardless of the missing cards. Very happy it’s getting the uncensored treatment but it’s really not the same without the Vita rubbing.

  • James Reilly

Let me guess the Vita version won’t even get patched on the removed content. Fuck IFI

  • https://loli.dance/ 259

This was one of the first card battling games I enjoyed playing and I’m glad to see PC users finally will get to experience it too.

  • Firion Hope

Mixed feelings, on one hand I don’t want to buy it for cutting the content in the first place, on the other I do because now they’re offering us a fixed version.

  • CrabCombat

Patching the Vita version would probably require a re-rating of the game

Bullshit but understandable bullshit at the very least

  • awvnx

It’s likely they’ll release this on Steam without ESRB rating since it’s not a requirement. Steam has its own content approval process.

I doubt they’ll patch it for Vita. It’d definitely require ESRB re-rating at least, and the localization companies are pretty averse to making big changes like that.

  • blackice85

Yep, which is a shame. I’d respect them a whole lot if they went that far.

  • James Reilly

Which is BS in itself. With or without the removed content it still would have got a M. I vaguely recall awhile back Xseed more or less taking shots on how IFI handled this game. Kind of glad IFI hasn’t touched the dungeon crawlers of this series.

  • Yu_Sen_Hua

I think It will STILL CENSORED Guys. Lol at “meaning none are being removed for being too risque”.

This is Idea factory explanation when censored vita version:
“We kept the same number of cards in the game as the original Japanese
version, but replaced some of the higher level Monster Girl images with
the “less exposed” lower level versions of the corresponding Monster
Girls due to some intense sexual imagery.”

  • Andrés Ortiz Ozeta

I guess If you got one of those touch screens as your monitor you won’t miss it as much 😉

  • Domhnall

“None are being removed” is very worryingly NOT the same as “none are being altered.”

  • Mea K

According to the Neptunia Steam group they also announced Hyperdevotion Noire and Hyperdimension Neptunia Action U for a PC release next year. Happy faces all around!

  • Yu_Sen_Hua

    Agreed

  • BurgerUnit

    Good catch

  • BurgerUnit

    THANK YOU BASED MADOKA

    > meaning none are being removed for being too risque.

That doesn’t mean jack-shit. The Vita version never had cards removed either, they merely altered the images on the cards.

I won’t buy into it unless they straight up say “this version is not altered/censored like the version on PS Vita.”

  • James Reilly

I’m sure PC has the option to at least mod them in worst case scenario.

  • Mea K

Isn’t this that game they wanted to release on PC a long time ago (even before the first Neptunia one) but then decided against after seeing the backlash the censorship got? Surely it wouldn’t make sense for them to release a censored version anyway now.

  • James Reilly

Problem is IFI does a lot of shit that doesn’t make sense by default.

  • BurgerUnit

I.e. Making their localizing debut with a censored game

  • Dave

Does the rubbing motion work on touchscreens? Because then this is an instant buy XD

  • awvnx

Well, the card art was removed entirely. Depends on how literally you want to take their wording. This news article is just second-hand sourced anyway, no direct quotation of what they said, so it’s too early to conclude anything from reading into the wording.

  • Para-Medic

    FUCK YES!!

  • http://epiclyamazing.wordpress.com/ AzureNova

I’ll believe it when I see it.

  • awvnx

People say that it’ll be easily implemented with a mouse… but the right technique for rubbing is actually to rapidly tap with three spread-out fingers to locate the sweet spot, and then rapidly tap on that spot over and over with multiple fingers. Rubbing is actually a terrible method.

I don’t know how it would be implemented with a mouse, because you’d only be able to do single taps.

  • Audie Bakerson

    Cool.

  • Para-Medic

    I laughed.

  • Nagato

Huh, I figured we’d get practically every IFI game on PC… but I never quite assumed this one would be among them as well.

And completely uncensored too at that too? I applaud their dedicatation to the (lewd) weeb audience.

  • Nin

While I’m not invested in this game, if all of the cards make it through uncensored, I can have faith that they are listening to their customers.

They’d become XSEED tier more or less.

  • benzene

Even if the art is uncensored, it’s not the same without the Vita touchscreen.

I want to have my cake and eat it too.

  • Johnathon

Better not alter the cards, just because they all are there does not mean they are the exact same

  • Ubrokemygrill?

As long as it’s uncensored it’s good news. I really wanted to get this for vita but too much removed shit.

  • patyos

    Hurray Good newsEVERYONE !!!!!

  • http://thewiredfishnetwork.com/ Steven T.

Ooh baby! Hope this game works with my Intuos4!

  • Dave

My surface can be rubbed pretty easily, though.

  • scemar

    Who cares.
    It’s PC.
You just switch some files and presto, uncensored game ready to go.

  • koreawut

I see what you did there…even if you didn’t do it on purpose? I can’t tell…

  • koreawut

If this makes it through uncensored I might as well buy it for Steam even though I already have it for Vita. Gotta support art, right?

  • buddyluv324

Hmm….but what if IFI finds a way around the rubbing mode by using the mouse to substitute it?

  • Karo

Wait, you mean the opposite of censorship? Does that exist?

  • landlock

Really they seem top-notch to me.

  • Immahnoob

    Lol.

  • landlock

really what have done then? I own most of the games they released so far and dont remember having any problems. what is so terrible?

  • Bianca Ann Saracino

I see some people posting whether them not removing the cards means uncensored completely or there but altered and another site lists this quote exactly

“The PC port of Monster Monpiece will not have multiplayer support, however, it will include all of the original artwork featured in the game’s Japanese release.”

So based on that quote it should definitely mean that NONE of the cards will be altered and will be the exact same cards as the japanese version.

Though this makes me wonder what Mugen Souls PC ports excuse is to still be censored…

  • Dgnfly

wauw this is a stab in the back for the ppl who bought the pretty cut-up version off the VITA.

  • djluke_1993

Geez I wonder if this will actually come out for Australia aswell unlike the Vita…

  • Para-Medic

    How so?

When you buy a console you consent to having content rated, removed, or moderated. Not only by the ESRB/PEGI/CERO, but by Devs and Publishers looking for a specific rating or trying to avoid legal issues and or controversy. Not to mention that Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft all have their own approval process and rules about content.

Is it right? No. But it has been this way for a long time now. Just another reason I switched to PC as soon as I could.

  • Para-Medic

Are there games on Austrailian Steam that are unrated? On American Steam, there are lots of games that are not rated by the ESRB. If unrated games are a thing on Aussie Steam, I’d say your chances are good. … If not, well let’s hope for the best?

  • Para-Medic

Ghostlight is either lazy or morally objected to the content.

    Either way, we lose, >_>

  • djluke_1993

Probably not since games that don’t have a rating or can’t be rated are straight up banned here. It’s one of the reasons why we never got the Indie marketplace for the 360 at all. But I don’t know why we never got Monpiece when Europe did and idea factory never gave a reason.

  • djluke_1993

Well unless you live in Australia then you never got to play the game lol.

  • Bananalint

Idea Factory is becoming one of my favorite localization teams. They actually listen to their fans. I’m proud of them.

  • awvnx

You’re like 0.1% of steam owners

  • Para-Medic

Mhm, when did Australia adopt that R18 rating? Maybe IFI can submit it under that?

  • djluke_1993

Ha! That still won’t work. That rating is useless Saints Row 4 was banned for drug references and was resubmitted again and got an MA15+ rating there. So in all it still doesn’t help since we’ve still had goes banned even with it. Our classification board is full of old fools.

  • djluke_1993

Hell Hyperdevotion Noire got rated R18+ while the Rebirth; games got Rated M with the exception of Rebirth 3 which Got MA15+ rating which I don’t understand why. Hell Noires game is less tame compared to the main games in the series.

  • Bianca Ann Saracino

At least we win in this case though, with the Asian English releases of Meoro Chronicles and soon to be Moero Crystal all 3 games will be available uncensored and in English for the first time ^_^

  • Dave

But I’m in that .1% that wants to use his surface to make fapping motions to play a game.

  • Dgnfly

the game wasen’t moderated and nothing was removed because off the rating system. it was removed so it could pass through rating easier basicly it was a publisher decision not the other factors.

  • Para-Medic

Uh, sure. My explanation included that though. You aren’t telling me anything new.

And the game absolutely was moderated. The Vita version was censored, that’s a fact.

  • Para-Medic

Sheesh. Australia, why you so scary? >_< From Drop Bear to games rating, everything is so… hardcore, in Aus.

  • Dgnfly

But your saying. When you buy a console you consent to having content rated, removed, or moderated.

which i feel is bullshit we don’t decide to play console so it can be censored. it just get’s down to the fact that publishers are afraid off Western backlash at the bullshit brought on by ”Feminist” and ”SJW”

so to skip cost because off ppl like that we all get to suffer along the road off censorship and we need to raise our voice to say F with censorship. so picking pc just cause it allows censorship is bullshit cause Steam censors X-rated VN.

  • Para-Medic

Of course you don’t decide that. The ESRB, and console manufacturer’s decide that for you. Neither of the big three will allow AO games for example. That is censorship. This is nothing new either, so, assuming you know all this, then when you buy a console you consent to these guidelines.

Steam is not the only place to buy VN’s though. See on a Playstation you can only get games at a physical store or on PSN. Neither place will stock an AO game ever. On PC, I can choose to buy from many different sources. Steam may be the largest one, but it’s far from the ONLY one. So in your example, if I wanted to buy an “X-rated VN” I’d do so from DLSite, MangaGamer, Amazon.jp (and apply a fan-translation patch), JAST USA, etc… The list goes on and on. That said, Steam does allow AO games (See the VN Discouraged Workers). And as you can tell, won’t be censoring monpiece.

As long as the ratings boards exist, and console manufacturers adhere to their ratings, consoles will always have their content moderated. That’s the way it has been, and from the looks of it, that’s the way it will continue to be.

I fully support rising up and telling the “SJW’s,” the ESRB, and all these other censor happy assholes to go fuck themselves, but honestly, I think we’re in the minority?

  • Dgnfly

i don’t think we are the minority, i think it’s more kinda like Islam, if you question it or are against it they label you as a bigot or a hater and get persecuted for it.

PC (political Correctness) is basicly killing this society. and what PC is get’s defined by the rich as usual considering they live in a bubble. now if you even use harsh language or make a critical comments about minorities. you get treated like a criminal regardless if the facts you bring to the table are truthfull.

  • EroBotan

blame feminists & SJWs for that

  • scemar

    Kinda right?
It’s not like they chose to censor a game and then decided to release the uncensored version on another platform (assuming no cards removed=uncensored).
But it’s still what they’d be doing in the end.

Anyways, this is overall good though, two wrongs wouldn’t make one right, releasing the game censored again wouldn’t make releasing it censored before any more right.

  • scemar

    Nice catch.

And mugen souls people say was a case of publisher choosing to censor on its own, no outside factors at play there.

  • scemar

Surface gonna be good for this

  • Richard Miller

I don’t know what the fuck this is but I love it when they keep PC games uncensored. :)

  • Richard Miller

Well you shouldn’t have bought it for the vita as it was censored. Speak with your wallet.

  • Dgnfly

well i diden’t buy it, i do vote with my wallet. but having something censored cause a Minority off ppl get offended is ridiculous.

  • Dgnfly

i am but hardly anybody dares call them out for it.

  • artemisthemp

Finally a uncensored version outside of Asia :)

  • Parkour

When MonPiece was released and censored for the PSVita, IFI wrote a a detailed post on their Facebook page explaining the situation, apologizing for the censorship and, finally, asking for our understanding on the matter (the post it’s still up if you want to see it).

I just took their words with a grain of salt, thinking “this it’s just PR bullshit/ damage control/whatever”. BUT now, seeing this anouncement, I wonder if IFI truly regetted censoring it and their words were honest, after all? If so, that’s not only great, but deserving of my respect.

Definitely buying the game if it’s true. Until we have more information telling us otherwise, this is a “God job, IFI” from me.

  • DizzyGear

The latter. They self censored Agarest 2.

  • Nagato

And here I expected to see you overjoyed at getting your uncensored flat justice.

  • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

    Monpiece
is an extremely addicting TCG, sure, it features a very lewd
mechanic but I promise you, you’ll spend more time lol’ing than feeling
like a pervert. All of you PC gamers, give it a chance, you may end up
    pleasantly surprised~.

  • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

The fact they are porting the game with all its cards means there won’t be any censorship~.

  • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

Mmm.. lack of multiplayer could make the game a chore in certain aspects. Some of the ultra rare cards could only be feasibly gotten through the packs you buy with the online tokens~.

  • Joel Leonheart

That’s kinda good news if true but still sad that vita version won’t be updated (but good thing is I bought the vita version on sale)

The touch screen feature was fun

  • Narmy

The Mugen Souls excuse was obviously bullshit. Ghostlight are proven liars.

  • PenguinPlayer

“The publisher also confirmed they’re bringing the game to Steam with all
of its cards – meaning none are being removed for being too risque”
“meaning none are being removed for being too risque”
    “none are being removed”

Well, shit, a company listening to their fanbase? It’s a shame I think NepNep is fucking boring bullshit or I would give them more money. Still, that’s a good sight of things to come. You guys better get ready for the “PEDO” comments on Steam, cause most of the cards removed are full on loli.

  • https://twitter.com/Katzedan Katzedan

on this same note, I’m really starting to not wanting to give them my money since everything I buy from them with full prize soon or later goes to PC with extra/new or uncensored content! :( (and man, I live in a crap country so this s**t is expensive as hell >_> )

  • Rautaputki

Hmm, Things could get interesting soon. I’m happy to see more of this stuff at Steam. I still do hope that they’d increase their port quality in-general.

  • Kiryu

There will always be retarded people,it”s like bad weed.

  • British_Otaku

Reminds me of the 3DS Gunvolt release to PC which ended up being a shit port but having all the Japanese 3DS content at last.

Terrible. So much for rating systems.

  • Kiryu

Jim Sterling is probably rubbing his hands,he has a new reason to bash Japanese games.

  • Alistair

Well this doesn’t get better then this, the burning question is what the difference from this or the vita version apart from this one uncensored the vita was.

Plus coming from the same company that self censored it in the first place.

This time the SJWs or I don’t care group can’t fucking spin it’s way out of this one.

Both versions same content same gameplay 1 was censored the other is not. The ball is now in IFI Court to explain that they’re censored the vita version with-out going to the rating boards & couldn’t do a U-turn.

But IFI given the go ahead with all cards present for the steam version this makes it a cop out vita version = bad. PC steam = good no vita love from IFI.

in short what I’m getting at is by right this should be censored like the vita version but instead two versions one superior the other inferior.

& IFI was adamant that the game had to be censored.

  • Kiryu

It”s good that IFI listens to their fans unlike some other big Japanese company from Kyoto.Too bad we won”t get it uncensored for the Vita.

  • Derp Minos

Dude have you seen the cards removed? Less than half are lolis. And there’s 17 of them.

  • Derp Minos

That’s not a problem. Gamers from Japan can’t buy the Nep games on Steam but they still get them through gifting from friends. So even if the game doesn’t come out in Australia you’ll only need a friend from another region to help you.

  • Derp Minos

Ghostlight Ross is a SJW. I used to follow him on twitter and he’s raised red flags multiple times.

  • ivanchu77
  • DizzyGear

IFI should advertise the game with a “Banned from Neogaf” tagline.

  • PenguinPlayer

My apologies then, it was not my intention to misinform. I just remember seeing a lot of loli cards so maybe some of them actually got into the game.

  • grgspunk

Okay. I might consider supporting this version’s release if it’s confirmed that it is indeed uncensored. No preorders; I’m not at that level of trust yet, but it seems they might be able to at least partially redeem themselves after fucking up the Vita version. We’ll need to wait and see.

Bonus points if they can get Steam download cards for this game on the shelves of Gamestop stores.

Additionally, if iFI submits this game to the ESRB and it turns out to get rated “M” for mature, then any censorship of future titles done by companies such as NISA or Atlus should be seen as an attempt to exert their own morality/fears on their localizations (as was the case with the Vita version’s localization of MonMon, since it never had the threat of an AO rating to begin with). If it turns out to be the case, we seriously need to consider imposing a hardline boycott of any censored future titles followed by threats of company-wide boycotts communicated to them via emails/forums/social media.

I never bought the notion that ESRB was made up of prudes. If MonMon does get an “M” rating, then we should assume that the “we censored it because it would get an AO rating” BS that localization companies have been feeding us time and time again carries far less weight than they want us to believe. There’s been too many uncensored titles released recently that have gone by unscathed for this argument to hold up any further (thanks, XSeed).

It’s time to get serious on censorship, and it starts at the localization companies themselves. Funimation would’ve never redeemed themselves in the anime market, nor would 4kids have been driven out of the anime market, if neither were called out by the (true) fans who actually cared about the integrity of the titles they’ve previously butchered. The same needs to happen in vidya front.

  • awvnx

There’s no reason for IFI to submit the Steam game to ESRB, since Steam has its own content approval process, so I doubt you’ll get what you want. It’s going to give them bad press no matter what rating they get.

  • awvnx

I honestly don’t mind. It was around $6 or so and I got my money’s worth. At least the gameplay elements were all still there.

  • BurgerUnit

I’m sure they are stocking up on canned food for the second coming of the apocalypse with the release of this game

  • TsukuyomiMagi99

Finally I can pick this up! Keep it up IFI! You’ll join X-Seed as one of my favorite localizers! This is like an oasis in the middle of a censorship desert. 😀

  • ashikenshin

Yup, I’m on the same boat. The game was fun and I kinda wanted more from the story, it ended too quick. I had too many games to keep playing after finishing the story.

  • Bianca Ann Saracino

Oh I am, I guess in my effort to give info to other posters I forgot to list my excitement haha

    WooHoo uncensored flat justice!!! ^_^

  • Bianca Ann Saracino

Curious what they’ll do then. I own the vita version but haven’t gotten to it yet so I haven’t had a chance to see the multiplayer but if thats the case wonder if they’ll boost the rng chances or whatever the game uses for getting rarer cards.

  • Bianca Ann Saracino

They expressed their regret and apologized for how they handled the game originally. IF is already one of my favorite pubs but to see them however long after the original release say they are releasing it uncensored just shows that their words are more then just PR speak and I love them even more for it ^_^

  • magicalfollower

    Yikes…
I wouldn’t like to have a friend which judges me based on the games i play…
I’d say he’s doing a favor for them.

  • grgspunk

We’ll see. In the meantime, I’ll stand by my point.

  • Yabloko Molloco San

    Good.

  • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

Basically, new booster packs open up on the shop as you complete a chapter; you won’t get the chance to try to get the strongest cards [which you’ll need for the endgame] until the very end game content. Through MP, whether you win or lose, you start collecting gems that you get to trade for either boosters or one of the two currencies in game once you collect seven or so [my memory is vague on that]. Thing is, the boosters you get in MP have a decent ratio of rare cards, plus they already come in their +2 / +3 versions. The boosters I bought on the game’s shop were.. well, I never got one single rare card~.

The original Monpiece featured the chance to buy boosters with real money, hopefully that won’t be shoehorned here due to the lack of MP to score rare boosters~.

  • alterku

I’ve never felt more ashamed to have spent $4 before now.

  • Nin

Confirmed uncensored. This is the exact wording in IFFY’s Newsflash Volume 59.

“Additionally, the updated PC port of Monster Monpiece will not have multiplayer support, however it will include all the original artwork featured in the Japanese release of the game.”

  • Dgnfly

the main isue is nowadays any game showing some skin get’s censored or banned because off the dumbest reason.

  • TsukuyomiMagi99

Outside of that what else? And the fact that they learned from their mistakes and fixed it speaks to their strengths not weaknesses.

  • BurgerUnit

that’s all I had lol. Some people might bring up some translation issues where they took some liberties.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m totally on board with what they have been doing lately and am a big fan.

  • TsukuyomiMagi99

Aww how cute! She actually thinks I give a shit! :p

  • EdgyDude

They can still keep all the cards and alter the images on them. We won’t know until the actual release, but it does give people some hope.

EDIT: I stand corrected, they’ve confirmed no editing too.

  • scemar

A company being honest to its fans and introspecting about past mistakes?
    10/10 would support

  • Alistair

What the hell is this have I been tagged for moderate.

Is this some twilight zone I enter. Dam how rude lol.

Another SJW site by the looks of it. I shall stay the F away.

  • Leandro Teixeira

I do hope they release a patch or something for the PS Vita to re-insert the removed since the PC version will come uncensored, and I am also curious, how will the level up system work on PC? I mean, on the Vita you had to rub the touchscreens, I wonder if on the PC it will function like one of those eroges where you have to rub the specific parts of the body.

  • Derp Minos

The funny part is there are still 2 uncensored lolis in the vita version.

  • Immahnoob

Wait, Moero Chronicle will be uncensored? THAT WILL BE UNCENSORED?

    YES. GOOD.

  • Immahnoob

    Self-censorship isn’t good either.

  • Bianca Ann Saracino

My apologies if I made it sound like it was licensed but Moero Chronicles isn’t licensed and probably never will be HOWEVER it does have an English Asian release that is easily importable and the quality of English subs is actually pretty good and not like the SAO Asian release at all ^_^ Moero Crystal was also announced to be getting it too and both games are completely uncensored if you import and since there is no DLC (that I’m aware of) you also don’t have to worry about about different region accounts and the hassle of it on the vita ^_^

  • XxMikeyXx

Based madoka? What does that reference mean?

  • dogmentation

I’ll explain it if you make a contract.

  • XxMikeyXx

No promises, the only contracts I make are with Lord Gaben! And sometimes, Lotus.

  • koksuckaahh

Never cared for the fact that MonMon was censored on the vita (Or at all for that matter) but I tolerated it because that was the only way to get it cheap and in English keyword “Cheap”. Now that it’s getting an Uncut steam release next year I might give it another chance if it goes on sale, It felt more like a cheap PC Browser game anyway and I doubt it’ll have trouble running on my PC. Now I can free up some precious vita memory card space to boot.

  • Nakua

100% support for companies that release their games uncut and original, against the SWJ and chilling efect.
    Good move IFI.

  • http://www.plurk.com/Nonscpo Nonscpo

Good for the people who wanted the game uncensored, but the reality is that this type of game plays better on a handheld, so I kinda think that the majority of people who wanted this game have already bought it; will be interesting to see how the PC port does.

  • Alistair

I thought we have another look of what cards was censored & now uncensored you see not 1 nipple in sight even that flower girl.

  • Sergio Montserrat

    Puella Magi Magika Madoka.
It references the ending of the series.
Don’t make any contracts with anybody.

  • XxMikeyXx

    Oh, now it makes sense.
