The Original Postal is Rejected from Google Play for “Gratuitous Violence”

In a move that makes us question what year it is, we’ve learned that Postal developers Running With Scissors have had their game rejected from the Google Play marketplace.

The reasoning behind the game not making it to the platform was reportedly for “gratuitous violence,” despite the platform already featuring oodles of games with equal amounts of violence.

“Sadly this means it won’t be welcomed alongside the Grand Theft Auto series, Carmageddon and horde of Zombie games on Google Play,” said Running With Scissors on their official forums. So why is Postal getting the shaft, while other games are being given the OK?

For those not in the know, Google recently switched to a new approval system in which “experts” go over each and every app submission for the platform. Prior to this, app submission was seemingly easier to get through, but now the standards, whatever they may be, are more stringent. Google implemented an age-based rating system alongside this change, as well.

Postal has been known for being a controversial game, much like the more recent sociopath-simulator, Hatred. While both games enable you to senselessly kill the innocent, the disparity between big-budget violent games seemingly getting a pass, while smaller violent games are lambasted, is debatable.

Running With Scissors are looking into alternatives to Google Play. “While this is disappointing for us, it won’t stop you from being able to play POSTAL on your favourite Android device. We are looking into Humble Store, Amazon and other Android App stores,” Running With Scissors said.
