Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1 and Fairy Fencer F are Coming to Steam

hyperdimension neptunia 12-22-14-1

Previously, Idea Factory rated Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth for PC. Now, thanks to the latest issue of Dengeki Playstation, we’ve learned the company is really bringing the game to the platform.

Idea Factory president Yoshiteru Sato confirmed the news:

“We have already made the decision to release the Neptunia series onto PC, in English, via Steam next year.”

Idea Factory business development manager Damien Urvois elaborated on how western demand for these kinds of games is increasing, and that Fairy Fencer F is coming over as well:

“The demand for moé is quite large overseas these days, so we have to rapidly bring the main titles over,” Urvois said. “We’re also looking to bring Fairy Fencer F  to Steam next year.”

Sato waxed over when talking about his dream to expand the company into mobile games overseas, and that Idea Factory is looking to release games in continental China, as well as south-east Asia.

Finally, Urvois teased that if their smartphone expansion goes well, they might look into releasing the Hakuoki smartphone game in English.

Wow…I haven’t bought either one yet (backlog) but with them being on the PC I’ll bite and get them there. Holy cow, never thought I’d see the day.

Maybe one day a Persona game will come to PC. (Don’t mention the SMT MMO)

More stuff coming to Steam~ 気持ちい・・・

Theres a big petition to get ATLUS games on steam:

  • Siveon

    AHAHAHAHA – *wheeze* HAHAHAHA.

Hoo. I can’t believe I called that. I don’t even want anything to do with that game.

Huh, I just bought Rebirth 1 for the vita. I usually get the portable version when all else is the same, so I’ll probably stick with the Vita for Rebirth 2. Maybe there will be a Steam representative in that universe, soon? Or perhaps there already is one, Rebirth 1 is my first game.

I was interested in Fairy Fencer F, but I didn’t have a PS3. Now that it’s coming to Steam however, I’ll definitely buy it. I wonder if Agarest War doing well was a factor?

  • Hydroninja9

YESSSSS. I don’t need to have to get a vita anymore xD

  • JCTXS

A Steam-tan or Valve-tan would be very cute, but I doubt it’d be added to either the 1st or 2nd rebirth. It’d have to be V or 2nd V.

I’m glad to see this coming to another platform. Though what he said concerns me a little. I hope IF doesn’t start ignoring the console market so they can pump out phone games.

  • Landale

Would be kind of interesting. Would probably end up being the party merchant replacement to Gust.

There goes another one of the few reasons to own a vita :/

Isn’t Idea Factory the company that outright removed like a quarter of the cards from Monster Monpiece during localization?

I’d really like for these games to come to Steam, but the fact that they’ve done that in the past is making me look at this with a very cynical eye.

  • Landale

A quarter of the cards? That’s funny. It was a far smaller portion than that and they weren’t outright removed, only certain levels of images were removed. And when you look past the PR speak, it’s quite clear that the removals were at least partially grounded in legal matters.
Neither Netpunia Re;Birth1 nor Fairy Fencer F have content that required such a thing to be done.

  • Domhnall

You’re right, I looked up the number of cards that were censored and I was way off base. It was 40 images out of 350, so about 11%. I was remembering the situation very incorrectly. But nothing from those images was illegal from what I’ve seen. I think it’s far more likely they were attempting to cover their asses from questionable PR, not legal issues.

Anyway, my point is not that the games aren’t worth buying or looking at, it was merely that I’m going to be wary. Censorship is one of those things that really rankles me up.

  • Landale

PROTECT Act. Specifically when it gets into obscenity, that’s where the requirement for realistic depiction disappears.
Polygon, Kotaku, and such wanting to basically be the authority on what is and isn’t art in gaming.
IFI was created, initially, to be simply an information distributor. They got into the localization stuff because no one wanted to pick up Monster Monpiece but fans wanted it. They know the mainstream gaming media is shit encrusted shit with a sidedish of liquid shit, IFI was made to cut them out of the loop to a degree.

Long story short: They dodged the “legal until someone whines” bullet with very precise removals. Unfortunate, but necessary, and far less messy than NISA’s nuking of everything related to questionable material until the game itself breaks in unexpected ways: Mugen Souls Z.
Even if they could win against such charges, the cost of a legal battle is not something a couple month old company branch would want to be dealing with, if they even could afford to in the first place.

So I can finally record my playthrough of Nep Nep :)

  • Nonscpo

Nice, Fairy Fencer coming to PC means I’ll get a chance to play it >_<

  • landlock

Nice, seems like Idea Factory are growing quite rapidly.

  • Keirnoth

Ahh, Polygon and Kotaku, the wonderful BASTIONS of PROGRESSIVE, OPEN, FREE thought. /sarcasm

This is why we #GamerGate is here – now that we’re around and sites like niche gamer having our backs, the next time something like this shit gets pulled, we’ll be able to help these companies fight back against the moral puritanical bullshit.
