Captain the Boat of Your Dreams in European Ship Simulator

British developer Excalibur has released European Ship Simulator onto Steam Early Access.

Featured above, you can view a whopping eight minutes of nautical action, which plays basically as you expect it would: you have to learn the ropes of being a true ship captain. The game is developed with core updates and expansion packs in mind for both developers and user-generated content.

Excalibur’s Managing Director, Robert Stallibrass commented: “European Ship Simulator represents a new direction for Excalibur; an internally developed IP which we can develop as a franchise over time, constantly growing the product’s content and direction with the addition of user feedback and generated DLC.”

For now, the early access version of the game comes with three ships, three missions, and two ports, Dover and Calais, that you can travel between. Updates are planned to be rolled out on a weekly basis, and you can expect at least five more ships and ports to be added alongside a mission editor, and finally Steam achievements, before January of next year.

A retail boxed version will be coming in February of next year, which is when the Mac and Linux versions of the game are launching. You can find European Ship Simulator on Steam here, for $14.99, a 25% discount from its regular price of 19.99.
