Grim Fandango Remastered on PS4 is Quite Nostalgic

Double Fine has published a developer diary for Grim Fandango Remastered that features the debut gameplay of the game, running on Playstation 4.

In its current state, the above video is showing off what is essentially the original Grim Fandango, and not the full remastered version.

The currently build of Grim Fandango is already running on the PS4, although producer Mark Cooke describes the source material as “really old and compressed using a super low resolution codec,” which Double Fine is “hoping to fix in the Remaster.”

The final build of Grim Fandango Remastered is poised to run at a full 1080p, and all of the 3DS models are going to look nicer under pixelated lighting. They’re also going to add some post processing effects.

Cooke finished with a final tease:

“Right now, we’re working off the original game files, which of course were really small and compressed for systems of their time. It still kind of depends on whether or not we get those original assets.”
