Manga Gamer is Localizing euphoria, a Sadism-Filled, Saw-inspired Experience

If that headline got your attention, then I’m sure I won’t need to really explain what this game is about. I will anyway:

Manga Gamer is localizing a visual novel titled euphoria, by Japanese doujin studio CLOCK-UP! It’s content is sure to please quite a lot of sadists and piss off possibly even more internet crusaders.

Featured above, the debut English trailer for the game shows off mostly bits of story and dialogue from the game, an experience which is grounded in a psychological thriller involving a young man, and his forced exploitation of other prisoners. Think of the movie Saw—only, replace the torture and execution scenes with rape, which are later enforced with death anyway.

Yeah, I never thought I’d write that sentence, either, but there it is. The story is centered around the mastermind of the “game” that you’re forced to play, which “game” involves violating the girls or watching them be murdered right in front of you. If you decide not to participate, you’ll be killed, as well.

“Withdrawal from the game will result in death,” and in this game, absolutely nothing will be cut or censored. Manga Gamer is also localizing the HD remaster version, meaning it will run in 1024 x 768, instead of the original 800 x 600 resolution.

I find it funny that other outlets just won’t touch this game.

    Brave.

Well its not only visual novels that go down the extreme routes in some cases the promotional video content of songs do it aswell. Nine inch nails closer for example & a few Japanese rock bands I follow. Or even movies. But press outlets covered the human centipede didn’t they ? & the saw series did do pretty well. Peoples judgement of games is just bizzare in that standard.

OMFG are you serious there actually localizing this one? Am not sure how to feel about it as I’ve never played it, I think their was a hentai anime for it.

  • http://www.nichegamer.net Brandon Orselli

There is a hentai OVA to it. I was trying to find -any- pictures I could that were from either, that were safe for work. I mean we’ll be reviewing it!

  • nonscpo

Since you guys will be reviewing it do you know how soon we could expect it? Also did mangagamer even put out a release date?

  • JazzyMan123

So this is finally coming over huh? I look forward to how much controversy this will generate as well as how many SJWs or whatever this will piss off lol.

Time to bring out the popcorn!

  • Bijyu

As someone who has played the game I actually highly recommend it (and the sex scenes are skippable) just for the story. It was an excellent experience even if you aren’t into hardcore eroge.

This has me excited – we’re definitely reviewing it officially, and one of our staffers is salivating at the thought of it (he texted me to review it right after I published this).

Also welcome! I’m always ecstatic to find new readers :)

  • http://www.nichegamer.net Brandon Orselli

I’m totally there with you – this is the kind of game that most outlets won’t touch and if they do it’ll be from that tired old reactionary journalist stance. You know, pointing the finger and going “OH, LOOK AT THIS PIECE OF FILTH, I CAN’T BELIEVE IT EXISTS!!!!”

  • http://www.nichegamer.net Brandon Orselli

They didn’t give me a release date but as soon as they’re back from Otakon I’ll bug them :) If I had the time/ finances to go myself this year I would’ve stopped by to bug them about it in person! Hah!

It’s very true. Movies, books, art, and music have all essentially been accepted as forms of media and as such can take on many forms, some of them possibly very offensive.

For some reason, video games have been under insane scrutiny and lots of agenda pushers want them to own up to the audiences that play them, instead of letting them just speak for themselves as works of playable art.

Nice, by the way I just noticed the widget. I left you some feedback in the Open Forum so hope that’s something that can be looked into in the future.

  • JazzyMan123

That reminds of the recent so-called “controversy” regarding Senran Kagura and Akiba’s Trip recently lol

  • bf313

Damn this looks super fucked up. It’s amazing that something like this is even legal for them to distribute. The SAW/Hostel type premise has me interested in the story but I don’t think I have the stomach or the mindset to be titillated by it. Might still buy for the story and for the fact that MangaGamer has the balls to localize something like this. This is like CNN coverage level of fucked up, not that I have any issues with it because it’s of course imaginary but still it’s a huge risk.

why does one girl look almost exactly like beato from umineko?
i wonder if she’s going to turn out to be some kind of villain… XD

  • JCTXS

Is the game like filled with guro content?

  • dsadsada

Yes but not hardcore guro. From what I remember, there was electrocution, drowning, and the worst was crushed between two walls I believe.

I remember playing this a while back since I was interested in playing a hardcore s&m game then and because the girl kind of looked like Beatrice from Umineko.

But after enjoying the smut then getting the first ending, I was so confused at what just happened so I played again and got a different one. The story just kept expanding with what little I could understand the more I played. And once I got what I’m assuming was the true ending, I just felt really satisfied for some reason and a little bit melancholic. I’d love to play this in English to find out what all the stuff I saw really meant.
