The Witcher 3 Falls Prey To Massive Leak

As is always the case with hotly anticipated games, the internet scours every page and file sent out by the developer in hopes of figuring out what tiny tidbits of info they can before the title’s eventual release. Unfortunately, this anxiousness often leads to mischief. Like Half-Life 2 and Mass Effect 3 before it, CD Projekt Red’s latest Witcher sequel seems to have been prematurely leaked to the public.

The good news? It’s not in any playable form that would cost the company money.

The bad news? Just about every detail of the storyline has been leaked and is now in the hands of people who will be spam-posting spoilers in every Witcher forum you visit.

First brought to the attention of the internet by this Reddit user, the files were obtained when a clever sleuth managed to gain access to the developer’s Google drive via a hacked Gmail account. Within this cloud storage they were able to find countless files pertaining to the game plot, NPC names, world maps, quest logs and even a rather interesting entry about boob physics, if that’s your thing.

Thankfully, very few sites are showing the spoiler-laden ending files, and I won’t either…but one interesting file I found was the map, which you see above. Long believed to be a massive open-world game and apparently bigger than even Skyrim, Witcher 3‘s map shows just how much territory there is to see. Each of the numbered areas in the map are said to contain some large “point of interest” to the player and will be linked with some sort of quest. The design documents go into great detail about each point and even remark how many quests will be done “out at sea”, which is something the CD Projekt RED hype machine hasn’t revealed to players in its marketing as of yet. If anything, this validates the talk about the game world taking so long to traverse.

A lot more info (That I naturally won’t mention here) has been revealed since last night’s release of the documents and massive plot spoilers are now sitting out waiting to be Harry-Pottered, so if you’re the type who hates having a story ruined, now would be the time to stay away from the game’s forums.
