Bob’s Game has Reached Its Funding Goal on Kickstarter

If you don’t know what Bob’s Game is, it’s basically the Duke Nukem Forever of indie games. At one point people really were very, very excited for it to be a thing. However, it soon became quite clear that the game’s creator, while admittedly talented, was more than likely mentally ill.

He had originally intended to unleash Bob’s Game on the Nintendo DS. When his application for a development kit was denied, he locked himself in a room for 100 days in protest and then stormed the Nintendo World store littering it with mock copies of his game. Eventually Bob claimed to be working on his own open source handheld called the ND, but later removed all reference to it from his site.

Interestingly, all of this seems to have made it into the existing narrative of Bob’s Game. It’s also described as “the ultimate cult game. It is a new religion for the modern world, inspired by and intended as a natural spiritual successor to previous disguised religion games such as Earthbound and Zelda and movie retellings of an ancient spellbook (The Old Testament) such as The Matrix,” according to Bob.

I have no idea if we will ever play Bob’s Game,  but I very dearly want to.  The Kickstarter isn’t even to fund the game, but rather to fund a van with solar panels on it so that Bob may continue development on Bob’s Game. Had Bob not received his funding, he’d promised to have moved back home, gotten his GED, a job at Best Buy, and to give up on Bob’s Game.

Fortunately it appears as though the madness will continue for a bit longer at least. God speed Bob!
