PS4 Update 1.4 is Coming “Soon,” ShareFactory Functionality is Revealed

Sony has confirmed that Playstation 4 firmware update 1.70 will be coming “soon,” and with it are coming some very awesome features.

The most notable of the new features that are coming with this new update is the ability to turn off HDCP, as well as being able to export and save both the videos and screenshots you’ve created to a USB drive.

Also revealed in this Playstation Blog post was the new editing suite called ShareFactory, a bold new video editor that is coming to the Playstation 4 console. The suite will let you “easily combine your captured video clips for editing,” which allows you to completely personalize them with text, themes, transitions, filters, audio tracks (you can use your own music!), and even commentary (which includes a neat picture in picture feature).

The other improvements coming with version 1.70 are as follows:

  • The ability to export your recorded video and captured screenshots via a USB drive.
  • The option to change the recording time of your gameplay into smaller increments.
  • The option to toggle who you publicly share your clips with on the Share home screen.
  • The removal of default saves for screenshots and video clips.
  • The option to toggle HDCP off, allowing you to record video directly from your HDMI input.

Lastly, firmware 1.70 will be echoing Sony’s previous tagline of “Play as You Download,” meaning that games you pre-order with the auto pre-download option will come in faster, a newer feature on the Playstation Network that lets you pre-load your games days before their launch – sort of like what Steam offers.

Apparently, this may not be all as Sony is promising  info for some “new upcoming features” as we approach the still unconfirmed release date of firmware 1.70.
