Battlefield: Pirates is Almost Here

blackwake dead marque ss 1

Although pirates are quite a reused trope in video games (although not as used as zombies, in my opinion), there hasn’t really been an ambitious enough game that features both the naval and land combat that pirates in the age of exploration would have witnessed. Enter Blackwake: Dead Marque, a very huge project being developed by only two indies, which looks totally awesome.

The game is set in the 18th-century period of the age of exploration, meaning there are four powers attempting to control the Caribbean seas: the Spanish, the French, the British, and the infamous pirate lords. Think of this as the multiplayer mode that Assassin’s Creed IV should have gotten but didn’t, mostly due to that game’s huge single player world.

Check out an alpha trailer below:

While the game is in alpha and does look rough, you can’t deny the work the small team has put into the title. Their final goal is to have up to 300 players per match, and multiple objective-based matches, among others, in what will hopefully be a finished product some time next year.

Please consider voting for the game on Steam Greenlight here.
