Amazon Purchases Killer Instinct Studio Double Helix

Amazon has purchased the Killer Instinct and Strider development studio Double Helix Games, according to a report from TechCrunch.

News of this deal was leaked from an invitation to a joint recruiting event from both Amazon and Double Helix, which is taking place in Los Angeles on February 13th. Amazon confirmed the deal to TechCrunch later in an official statement:

“Amazon has acquired Double Helix as part of our ongoing commitment to build innovate games for customers”

The cost of such a purchase was not disclosed, however as Double Helix has been developing a reputable name for themselves, they must not have come cheap.

Amazon is rumored to be developing their own Android powered console, according to VG247 sources. With a rumored price point of $300, the console is being poised to “compete directly with Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo.” Clearly, buying a talented studio like Double Helix would only contribute to the games that platform could have.
