Final Fantasy VI is Out on Android with a New Look

It seems like Square Enix just can’t get a break lately with its fans, that or they just keep doing stuff to make them question their actions. The recent release of the classic and groundbreaking Final Fantasy VI on Android has seen some significant changes, a particular aspect of which is making fans seriously wonder what they were thinking.

Pictured above and below, the Android version of Final Fantasy VI has “painstakingly recreated” new visuals that were oversaw by one of the original game’s designers, Kazuko Shibuya. The sprites have all been redone, amongst other things. The more I look at the new visuals, the more I kind of like them – call me a blasphemer if you will.

Alongside the new visuals are all of the enhancements and new content seen from the 2006 remake, including the new magicites and events, some of which have been optimized to be played with the adapted touch controls.

The Android version costs a steep $14.99, while the game in its original form costs only 900 Nintendo Points on the Japanese Wii U Virtual Console, the equivalent of $8.60 USD. While this is not available in the West yet, the PS One classic version on the Playstation Network costs $9.99 USD.

I guess it boils down to which platform you want the game on really – although the purists will clearly opt for the original version.
