You Can Already Access Xbox One’s Developer Tools

Microsoft has previously confirmed that every Xbox One has the innate ability to become a golden dev kit, allowing anyone and their grandmother to become an Xbox One developer. This sounded awesome, except that program still isn’t ready to roll out, that is not officially at least.

A clever reddit user has figured out that the Xbox One already has an option to tick on the developer kit, transforming your completely ordinary Xbox One into a fabled dev kit. A screen reflecting that option is shown below:

In order to access this hidden menu, you have to hit the left bumper, right bumper, left trigger, and right trigger in that exact order. That should bring you to that menu, in which you can tick on the dev kit mode.

Here’s the problem, in a statement to Kotaku, Microsoft has confirmed that this is only for Xbox One developers, and should not be experimented with by inexperienced or normal users, as it could brick your console:

“Changing the settings in this menu is only intended for developers for Xbox One, and this alone does not turn the console into a development kit. We strongly advise consumers against changing these settings as it could result in their Xbox One becoming unusable. Customers who have put their consoles into this developer setting can revert by restoring factory defaults under Settings / System, select Restore Factory Defaults.”

So there you have it, your Xbox One already has the option to be turned into a dev kit, the only problem is that if you don’t know what you’re doing, it could turn the unit into a $500 paper weight.
